Zanzibar Spice Tour
With an amazing diversity of landscapes and a wide variety of activities on offer, there is no shortage of great locations to travel to when you are visiting Tanzania. However, some destinations have unique things to offer that make them worth a special visit. In my opinion, the best places in Tanzania are as follows:
Zanzibar – The dazzling archipelago in the Indian Ocean is one of the most popular places to visit in Tanzania. Zanzibar’s sparkling white beaches, crystal clear water, and great variety of things to do make it a must for anyone visiting Tanzania. While there, you can snorkel or scuba dive, go on a spice plantation tour, visit Stone Town, swim with the dolphins, or just lie on the beach and soak up the sun.
Mount Kilimanjaro – Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the most popular activities for adventure travel in Tanzania. The mountain is the highest peak in Africa, and visitors from all over the world rise to the challenge of climbing it. You can choose from one of six routes to the top, which range from intermediate to advanced.
Serengeti – One of the best places for safaris in Tanzania is the Serengeti. The annual wildebeest migration draws safari goers from every corner of the globe, and no trip to the country is complete without seeing the Big 5 in the national park.
Ngorongoro Crater – Another of Tanzania’s famous safari destinations, the Ngorongoro Crater is also one of the best places in Tanzania. The park is unique in that it is contained in a former volcanic crater, allowing visitors to view lions, cheetahs, zebras, elephants, giraffes, and other animals with a stunning circular backdrop.
Sunset in Zanzibar
Flights from Zanzibar to Kilimanjaro airport are the easiest way of getting from the relaxation of the islands to the adventures of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
All flights to Kilimanjaro require a layover in Dar es Salaam. Flights leave from Kisauni Airport, which is located on Zanzibar’s Unguja island. Most people refer to Kisauni as Zanzibar International Airport, which has an IATA code of ZNZ. It is situated slightly south of Stone Town. After the layover, flights touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport near Mount Kilimanjaro. This airport has an IATA code of JRO.
The scheduled flying time on flights from Zanzibar to Kilimanjaro is 2 hours and 30 minutes, including the layover. While flight prices fluctuate throughout the year, a one-way flight usually costs around US$200, and a round-trip flight normally costs around US$325.
There is only one airline that operates flights on this route. It is called Precision Air, and unfortunately it doesn’t have the best reputation. The airline is notorious for overbooking flights and bumping passengers to later departures without letting them know ahead of time.
To avoid this happening to you, there are two things you should do. First, call Precision Air the day before your flight from Zanzibar to Kilimanjaro to reconfirm your booking. Second, show up at the airport at least three hours in advance to get your boarding pass and make sure that you have a seat on your scheduled flight.
Dhow in Zanzibar
Zanzibar is one of the best places to visit in Tanzania, and is worth including on any travel itinerary. Flights from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar are among the best ways to get from the capital of the country to the famous islands.
Flights from Dar es Salaam are offered by Bankair, Coastal Aviation, Precision Air, and ZanAir. Some of these airlines offer charter flights, and others offer commercial flights. Additionally, some of them are low-cost airlines that offer cheap flights to Zanzibar.
All flights from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar take off from Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), which is the large international airport in the capital. They land on Unguja island in Zanzibar. The airport there is called Kisauni Airport, or Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ). ZNZ airport is near Stone Town, which is the main city in the island archipelago.
The airlines that operate on this route vary in quality. Some are better known than others for having prompt departures and arrivals and for treating passengers well. As such, it is a good idea to choose wisely when flying to Zanzibar.
Precision Air has a reputation for overbooking its flights and rebooking passengers on later ones without notifying them in advance. Try to avoid flying with them if possible. Charter flights from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar are usually quite prompt and reliable, so traveling with a charter airline is a better bet.
