If you like being in the heart of the action and among the city, Lamu Town is a good option for you. If you like peace and quiet and want to be near the beach, Lamu Town is probably not where you want to stay.
Shela
Shela is Lamu Town’s smaller counterpart. Located 4 kilometers away from Lamu Town, Shela is quieter and more peaceful than Lamu Town. It is also adjacent to a 7 kilometer stretch of beach that is perfect for sun worshippers. If you want a quiet place to stay that is still in a town, Shela is the best place to stay in Lamu.
Manda Island
Across a small channel from Lamu is Manda Island. The Lamu airport is on Manda Island, which makes it an easy place to stay. There are several private homes and all-inclusive resorts on Manda Island that are good places to stay if you like privacy, peace, and want to get away from it all.
